About Mary
Mary’s interest in rug hooking began over 20 years ago she saw an old hooked rug in an antique shop. She has been hooking rugs ever since. Mary is a Certified McGown instructor and has been teaching traditional rug hooking for nine years, currently at her studio (Mary’s Wool Garden) and at various art centers and fiber shows in VA. She teaches both wide cut/primitive style hooking as well as fine shading, and she hand dyes all of her wool fabric. Mary also teaches twined rug making using recycled as well as new materials. She was the director of the Outer Banks Rug Hooking Retreat and has published articles in Rug Hooking magazine.
Mary Henck and Mary’s Wool Garden have been featured in Rug Hooking Magazine and the Style Weekly section of the Richmond Times Dispatch. She has exhibited rugs at the Visual Arts Center and other local galleries in Richmond, VA.
